Musculoskeletal & Persistent Pain Exercise Physiology
Persistent pain, osteoarthritis and long-term musculoskeletal conditions can gradually reduce strength, fitness, confidence and participation in everyday activities.
At Territory Sportsmedicine, Exercise Physiology focuses on rebuilding physical capacity through progressive exercise. Rather than simply avoiding activities that are uncomfortable, we work with you to identify what you can do and progressively increase your ability to move, lift, walk, exercise and participate in the activities that matter to you.
How We Address Musculoskeletal Conditions & Persistent Pain:
- Functional Assessment: We assess strength, movement, physical capacity and the activities that are currently difficult or limited.
- Progressive Strengthening: Exercise is individually prescribed and gradually progressed to improve the capacity of muscles, joints and surrounding tissues.
- Graded Exposure to Activity: Where pain or injury has resulted in reduced activity, we progressively reintroduce appropriate movements and physical demands.
- Whole-body Conditioning: Improving general fitness and strength can be an important part of managing long-term musculoskeletal conditions.
- Exercise Education: We help you understand appropriate exercise loads, progression and strategies for continuing to remain active.

Exercise Physiology & Physiotherapy Working Together
Physiotherapy may initially focus on diagnosis, symptom management, movement and early rehabilitation. Exercise Physiology can complement this by progressively developing the strength, fitness and physical capacity required for longer-term recovery and function.
At Territory Sportsmedicine, both services are available within the same multidisciplinary team, allowing rehabilitation to progress seamlessly where appropriate.
Building Capacity for the Long Term
Our aim is to help you move beyond simply managing symptoms and develop the strength, confidence and physical capacity required for everyday life, recreation and long-term musculoskeletal health.
